Social Security is warning consumers to be aware of phone calls from unknown people who claim to have information about a consumer’s application for disability benefits and offer assistance with the customer’s claim. The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) received a report from a Maryland resident who recently received several of these phone calls, even though the resident had not applied for disability benefits.

Many seniors have been receiving a solicitation letter from a places called Seniors Center, which asks people to send money to keep the center from closing. They use scare tactics and try to convince the receivers that it’s urgent that they send them a check or cash right away or their local senior center will close.
