Annual Golden Games
CARIE's 20th Annual Golden Games is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Carousel House in Fairmont Park. Please contact Lori Walsh if you are interested and able to volunteer.
CARIE's 19th Annual Golden Games was held on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at Carousel House, Belmont Avenue and North Concourse Drive in Fairmount Park. Golden Games brings together elderly residents from Philadelphia nursing homes – over 125 residents from fifteen homes --- for a day of exercise, rivalry and FUN! A team from each nursing home competes in Olympic style events, including walker and wheelchair races and a “hat and scarf” relay. This year members of two Philadelphia LIFE programs joined the competition. Once again, Philadelphia Nursing won the Gold trophy with Immaculate Mary winning the Silver trophy. The LIFE at Penn program placed third.
At the 18th Annual Golden Games held in September 2005, Philadelphia Nursing Home’s team took the Gold trophy home with St. Ignatius Nursing Home coming in at a close second to take home the Silver trophy. Bala Nursing Center’s team placed third. Entertainment was provided by Greg Wright and Jimmy Wells. Volunteers from Citizens Bank and UGI/Amerigas were on hand to assist with the games, as part of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s “Day of Caring”.
Golden Games gives nursing home residents a day of physical activity, a chance to socialize, and most of all, fun and excitement. We invite you to join us! For more information about next year's event, contact Lori Walsh at (215) 545-5728.
