Annual Conference

CARIE’s 28th annual conference, Medicare Part D: A Prescription for Confusion, was held on September 22, 2005 at WHYY’s Technology Center in Philadelphia.  Older consumers and professionals gathered to learn about the challenges and opportunities of Medicare’s new prescription drug benefit.

Patricia Nemore from the Center for Medicare Advocacy provided an overview of Medicare Part D with a special focus on low income beneficiaries and those who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid.  Nora Dowd, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Aging, and Tom Snedden, Pennsylvania’s Director of the Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE) program, described the impact the new Medicare drug changes is expected to have on the PACE program and its participants.  Alissa Halperin, Managing Attorney from the Pennsylvania Health Law Project, moderated a lively and informative question and answer segment.
